Steinham Tor is the alter ego of composer/musician Steven W Adams. This other entity was needed to distinguish between Steve's full compositions and his solo guitar work. Steinham Tor compositions reflect many influences, so it will not be uncommon to hear pop, rock, jazz, swing, latin, or blues. Steve's main influence, though, is progressive rock, and the compositions display a more complex structure. The desire is to keep your ears interested.
The overwhelming majority of the guitar work is performed by Steve using a Taylor 6-string acoustic, a Hamer 6-string electric, and a Guild 12-string acoustic. Everything else is voiced via computer running Propellerhead Reason software.
The music of Steinham Tor has been simmering for a long time. The wait has (hopefully) given it some depth and maturity it would not have had if released sooner. Because the music is all instrumental, it can be listened to in many different settings without being intrusive. On the other hand, lots of folks hear it being background for film/video.
Adams began composing music while studying percussion at the University of Colorado in Boulder. When he decided to switch majors to electrical engineering (to build electronic music synthesizers), his career path took a turn to hardware design engineering. He continued to compose music throughout his career as an electrical engineer. Now retired from engineering, he is devoting all of his efforts toward releasing all of this music.
"[Music] is a language which the soul alone understands, but which the soul can never translate."
-- Arnold Bennett
